Day 10 La Motte Chaloncon to Chichilliane

Getting on the bike this morning was a bit of a struggle with all sorts of areas creaking and groaning. The climbing up the Col de Premol started soon after we set off and each area of the body took it in turns to have a moan. Fortunately it was a relatively easy climb followed by a pootling descent to coffee and pains aux raisins in the not exactly bustling village of Luc-en-Diois.

It was cloudy and jackets were needed for the descents but happily we avoided the rainstorms. The next climb was a bit of a monster - 13 miles and 3500 feet of climbing up to the Col de Menee. The gradient got a bit nasty in places but I plodded my way up in my goat zone, letting my brain meander off in total peace and quiet.

James had told us that we would really notice the change in scenery and light when we came through the tunnel and he was correct - we are now in the foothills of the Alps.

It was a shorter day today (phew!), so another descent took us down to the Chateau de Passieres in Chichilianne and a picnic lunch in the courtyard before  getting the room keys.

The hotel is in a beautiful building, slightly dilapidated  and properly in the middle of nowhere. I’ve decorated my view in the usual way...

And here are today’s geeky stats:

I attempted to read my book this afternoon which obviously turned into a nap, interrupted by church bells, a confused cockerel and a very disgruntled sounding donkey.
